Thank you
and I suggest you contact Professor Daniel Baker of the University of Vermont. He is teaching about impacts of European colonization of South and Central America and Africa and I would like to hear him talk about the impacts here and how we can help to sustain the Pre-European-Immigration Cultures and Languages. How about a Department of Native American Languages at UVM? I hope to come to see you west of here someday again. Best, Corinna, Niece of Susan Jordan |

Just browsing. My grandparents, George & Jane Baker used to live
on the hill east of Lamoka lake which everyone called Six Nations
Hill when I was young. I was born in 1937.I just typed in six

Why was the dam that drowned 9000 acres of Seneca land allowed to
occur despite this centries old "Treaty"? What was
compensation (if any)? What were the other "stresses" put
on the treaty that did not break it?

I was honored when Debra Glor invited me to visit your site. The first

of the Treaty Celebration. Therefore, I'm asking additioinal info.
This is my first opportunity to learn about the Treaty of the
Iroquois. Thank you for allowing me this space to express my thoughts

My mother is a Chapin, but not a direct descendant of the Israels.
Deacon Samuel had several sons, and we are descended from a different
one from Israel Chapin Sr. We have attended the ceremony in the past.
Glad it is continuing.

I'm the designer of the commemmorative Treaty poster that appears on
the site's home page. It is with pride and humilty that I'll say that
the Treaty Poster has been far and away one of my most recognized
pieces, and I still get requests for it.
This is a very nice site, and a good way to educate folks about the importance of the Treaty. Good Luck! (p.s., please be sure your site address goes on all the printed material for this year's celebration (if you haven't already) and be sure to send press releases to the media with your site's address. They'll give you free coverage!) |

Having been following the situation as it has been unfolding. Though I
do not have any tribal affiliation - at least I don't think I do - I
am in support of the treaty being upheld. I would be ashamed to call
myself a New Yorker if Pataki violates a treaty that has been honored
for over 200 years. I wish all of you and your Nation the very best.
Good luck in your endeavors to maintain a spirit of tradition, honor,
loyalty and family.

I love working with the people of the Seneca Nation. It's my home away

I have been researching Iroquois - US Constitution connections, as
well as family history in western New York. Was delighted to see such
a lively celebration occurred to commemorate the Treaty. I am planning
a trip back that way soon, and I intend to visit very place I can find
that is in any way connected with my Seneca and colonial English
background. If you have anything you could send me, I'd be most
grateful. I certainly will be visiting Canandaigua on this trip. Could
you tell me precisely where to find the hill where Seneca tradition
teaches that the People emerged from beneath the ground? I understand
that it is in the neighborhood. I certainly will want to visit that.
Thank you.

This Treaty is more significant today than ever, with its implications
for world peace! Thank you for keeping it alive and bringing it to
life for others. Is there anyone who could write or who has written a
play re-enacting the events leading up to and including the signing
which could be presented by a performance group committed to spreading
the message in the Treaty? This could be a valuable tool to apply the
consciousness of those days to the needs for peace in the world today.

my ancestors. He mentioned that his Indian ancestors were from the

As much as I had liked to, I wasn't able to attend the Treaty Commemoration. How I would have loved to hear some of the most wonderful words ever spoken - the Thanksgiving Address! But I was there in mind and spirit, reaching out to strengthen the chain of friendship. I wish everybody always great peace! |

In the late '70s, my wife Muriel, Barbara Mahootie, Ann Galban, and
other ladies decided to revive the Commemoration, which up to that
point had been kept alive primarily by Dr. Sheldon Fisher and a
troop of Boy Scouts. We fed the participants at our home at 356
North Main, a few blocks north of the Canandagua courthouse. A year
later, participants ate a post-ceremony dinner at the National Guard
Armory (where, among other things, guests enjoyed Western-style corn
soup!) We've learned that some of our Six Nations friends have since
passed on, but memories of those rich times still remain.

Recently discovered that a GREAT,GREAT,GREAT grandfather when coming
to America in early 1800's from Ireland apparently met and married a
Mohawk woman. Settled in Iowa for some time and eventually family
settled in upstate NY.

Thank you for the fine work you are doing on this website and in
many other places and ways. Your faithfulness to your/our history
and to your/our traditions will help us all to understand better
what America is all about. You will help us to know how we came to
be where we are now as a nation, and how we can be ever more true,
ever more honest about the breadth and depth of our common heritage
as children of God in this very beautiful land. Again, thank you.

Yes. My daughters and I, and possibly my husband and young son, are
planning to attend the Treaty Day Celebration this year (my two
daughters and I will be there for sure). We have never been - we
were just invited this weekend by Grandmother White Wolf who we know
from Native American Camp that is held each year at Camp Aldersgate.
I have always been interested in Native American art and history
(although I admit I have gotten away from it considerably the past
few years raising a family, working, & going to college - but
was never completely detached from the interest). The really neat
thing is that my children have a lot of the same interests that I
do, especially my oldest daughter Jacinta, so I get to relive it and
get my interests rekindled. We are really looking forward to
attending the Treaty Day Celebration!

A friend who is Native American (Craig Binnert) is working on the
Nov. 11th ceremony. My son and I are trying to learn as much as we
can about our Native American friends.

My son and I plan on attending the ceremony. I have never attended
and it will be an excellent learning experience for both of us. My
son Joshua is 6 and we are both eager to learn as much as we can
about the Native American people. This web site is excellent. It is
a good learning tool with an abundance of information. It is also
very user friendly.Thank You.

I am interested in writing a paper about the Haudenosaunee because
it is a very interesting topic that is a strong part of the history
of NY. And I would like more information especially about this
treaty to learn more about what happened in my hometown over 200
years ago. I hope to attend this years ceremony to gain knowledge of
the history that most of us should try to understand.

I COME FROM A BACKGROUND OF FIVE EUROPEAN ANSCESTORS AND FIVE NATIVE
AMERICAN INDIAN ANSCESTORS. OUR FAMILY BELIEVES
ONE OF OUR ANSCESTORS WAS CHIEF CORNPLANTER, HOWEVER, THAT WOULD BE HARD TO PROVE TODAY. MY HEART IS FOR THE ORIGINAL PEOPLES OF THIS LAND. I BELIEVE THE ORIGINAL PEOPLES OF THIS LAND ARE STILL THE MOST MISTREATED PEOPLE ON THE FACE OF THIS PLANET. I BELIEVE EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING WAS CREATED BY ONE CREATOR. I DO NOT BELIEVE IN MISTREATING ANYONE OR ANYTHING. I DO NOT CONSIDER ANYONE MY ENEMY, INSTEAD, I ONLY SEE ALL PEOPLES AND CREATURES AS BEINGS OF OUR CREATOR WHO NEED TO BE UNDERSTOOD. UNLESS, OF COURSE, THEY ARE TERROISTS AS SEEN ON SEPTEMBER THE 11TH OR DOWN RIGHT MURDERS,RAPISTS OR MOLESTORS OF CHILDREN AND MOLESTORS OF OTHER PEOPLE. I DO BELIEVE OUR NATIVE AMERICAN ANSCESTORS WERE FOR THE MOST PART PEOPLE WHO HAD VERY HIGH MORAL STANDARDS. I CANNOT SAY THE SAME FOR THE ONES WHO CAME TO THIS LAND FROM OTHER COUNTRIES WHO RAPED AND KILLED THE PEOPLES AND THE ENVIRONMENT OF THIS TURTLE ISLAND WE CALL HOME. IN BROTHERHOOD, I REMAIN A FRIEND AND BROTHER TO ALL OF YOU WHO TRY TO DO THE RIGHT THINGS FROM ARNOLD MYERS--WOLF-DREAMER. |
