1794 CANANDAIGUA TREATY
COMMEMORATION COMMITTEE, INC.
"BRIGHTEN THE CHAIN OF FRIENDSHIP" One of the most sacred
documents of the United States is The Constitution. Within the text of
this revered parchment it is stated that all treaties made by the
authority of the United States government with other nations, whether
here in North America or elsewhere in the world, are to be viewed as the
supreme law of the land. With respect to the founding fathers and their
Native Elder counterparts and the spirit with which they entered into
the signing of treaties, the 1794 Canandaigua Treaty established a
compact of peace and friendship between the nations of the Haudenosaunee
people (Iroquois) and the fledgling 13 states of the United States of
America that continues to this very day. It is one of two remaining
treaties so honored and respected between the Native peoples of this
land and the Federal Government. For over 40 years the
volunteers of the 1794 Treaty Committee have been able to present, with
limited funds raised from raffles, craft sales and private donations, a
celebration day that includes a parade, speakers, crafts and a free
dinner. Recently, the day has concluded with a social and Native
American singers. Continuing to hold this event finds fund raising a necessity. The future finds us asking for financial help to cover the cost of speakers, insurance, food, rentals, etc. This financial responsibility of holding the event free of charge is a concern for those who wish to see Treaty Day maintain a special significance for all peoples represented by the Treaty. Whether you have been attending during the last 40 years or are a newcomer, we ask you to consider giving a donation so we can continue to brighten the chain of friendship between our peoples in the years to come. The 1794 Canandaigua Treaty Commemoration Committee is a not for profit organization and your gifts are tax deductible. Please join the commemoration of this historic event which is celebrated each year in Canandaigua, NY on November 11th, bringing the Haudenosaunee people of the Six Nations and the United States together to reaffirm their commitment to the Treaty, and to foster a better understanding between our nations. We give our warmest thanks. Nya:weh. Please Make Your Tax Deductible Donation Check payable to:
